Things happen in London that you’re never aware off and the closing of the HMS Belfast completely passed me by, but luckily I’ve heard about the reopening happening this weekend and if you want to do something different with the kids this is opportunity you don’t want to miss because they’re holding special events to mark the occasion.

They’re calling the event a Family Weekender and it’s definitely geared for the kids with activities such as designing your own naval tattoo, sending signals at sea, stories from veterans who served on the ship and much more, including a barbecue on deck.

For all the day’s event click here, the events are all free (except the barbecue) with a general admission ticket which for all non readers of this blog is £14, but you know Chris always knows how to find deals and he’s got a brilliant offer for the event, which if you sign up for his email list he’ll let you know about.

The HMS Belfast Family Weekender is on the 26 and 27 May and starts from 11am and with the weather looking best on the Saturday that has to be the best day to go.

As much as I like Madame Tussauds, they have been put to shame by the launch of the BP Legends Collection.

You see what BP have done is brilliant. They’ve produced 12 medallions of British Olympic champions as a souvenir pack.

Now the images on some of the medallions aren’t great, but at least they’ve done something to celebrate the Olympics in London.

Now take a look at what Madame Tussauds have done to celebrate the Olympics. Having Tom Daley and Jessica Ennis representing British Olympic success would be OK if they had actually won Olympic gold.

In Fact Madame Tussauds make no mention of any of our Olympic champions. Not one. They’ve never even asked Steve Redgrave to be one of their figures, which is absolutely shocking.

BP have picked true legends

BP on the other hand look like they’ve put some thought into the medallions. They have Steve Redgrave as a spokesman and your favourite athlete might not be one of the 12, but the 12 they have picked are some of the best.

You’ve got Steve Redgrave, Sebastian Coe, Kelly Holmes, Matthew Pinsent, Daley Thompson, Denise Lewis, James Cracknell, Chris Hoy, Rebecca Adlington, Ben Ainslie, Tanni Grey-Thompson, Lee Pearson.

But what I most like is that it only costs £2 to collect each medallion (£1 for the Steve Redgrave one to get you started). Plus, when you buy a medallion you get a code that gives you the chance to win Olympic tickets and other Olympic prizes.

I’ve got to give it to BP, this is a win, win for everyone. BP gets some good publicity, athletes get extra funding and you get the chance to win prizes.

A different medallion is released each week and to get one you just need to visit a BP garage, but you don’t need to buy any petrol.

You’ve got to admire the optimism of the makers of Babel putting on a huge open air production in London in May.

If they’d looked at our monthly weather forecast they’d have been better off going for February or March. But that’s by and by.

If you’ve not heard about Babel you soon will and you’ll probably want to get tickets because it sounds like it could be brilliant.

What the makers of the show have done is very clever. They realise there’s probably a generation who’ve never heard of the Tower of Babel.

So what they’ve done is updated the story and themed it as a forgotten tower that has been rediscovered.

Brilliant, absolutely brilliant.

Then throw in live music, some amazing visual effects and up to 300 cast members and you’ve got one hell of a show.

But like I said in the beginning my only reservation is the weather. You see standing around in a park getting wet and cold is not my idea of a good night out.

I know that doesn’t bother a lot of people and if that’s you, you should check out there site for more details.

But here’s the thing. The show’s only on until Sunday 20^th May, so you need to get your tickets ASAP.

I really hope the weather’s going to improve this week because there’s a rare chance to hear classical music played live by one of the best orchestras in the world, our very own London Symphony Orchestra and what’s even better is that the whole event is going to be totally free.

As far as I’m aware this is the first time they’ve played like this in Trafalgar Square but they’re doing it properly by making sure there are large screen on either side of the stage so that if you didn’t get there early enough to be at the front you’ll still get a great view.

You all know I’m not a fan of these open air Trafalgar Square events, click BP Big Screen to see why, but if the weather looks like it’s going to get better I might just plot up and take a chance with this one, because I do think it could be very good.

The concert starts at 6.30 and is on this Saturday, there’s no word on the finish time and for more details on what’s being played go to the London Symphony Orchestra website.

I don’t know about this one, I sort of think I shouldn’t be mentioning it because unless you’re real Monty Python fan this isn’t going to be of interest and if you are a fan you aren’t going to need this App because you’ll already have a collection of their best sketches.

But at the end of the day and knowing what these 3 guys are like, just hearing them feed of each other and the stories they have to tell, I think, does make this a worthwhile event to tell you about and I think the place will be packed.

If you want to go along to the event it starts at 6.30 – 7.30 but as with these popular Apple events you need to get there as early as you can to be sure of getting a seat and as for the App, well here’s the link to it here.

With the weather in London likely to be iffy at best this weekend I really wish this Litchfield exhibition had started because it looks fabulous, with some truly amazing shots from the publicity material, for instance isn’t the shot with the woman in the snow just remarkable and then there’s the one of the woman hanging on the hook of the crane.

But the exhibition’s not on until the 24^th so for this weekend here are a couple of suggestions that you might want to do if you want to escape the rain, and of course you can still see the photo exhibition of Marilyn Munroe at the Getty.

But if you’re looking for a good night of comedy the 99 Club still has tickets for this weekend with 3 top comedians on Saturday who if you watch a lot of comedy on TV you’ll instantly recognise, for details of who’s on click here.

Some would call this next event a bit freaky deaky, I’ll let you judge, it’s an exhibition about the human brain and here’s part of what the official info says “There are over 150 artefacts including real brains, artworks, manuscripts, artefacts, videos  and photography,” if that for you go for the free guided tour on Saturday at 11.30, here’s the details.

Finally I couldn’t decide on the Jazz at the Kings place on Saturday or the Tattoo show on Saturday and Sunday so here’s a link to both of them and that’s it from me. Kings Place or Tattoos?

Oh one final thing, it’s not on over the weekend but do your best to get to the Lamb pub in Leadenhall Market on Monday for their St George’s celebrations, it looks absolutely brilliant and the record breaking attempt of St George’s speech from Henry V is a stroke of genius.
