How do you keep up with all the excellent comedy shows in London, I know we find it pretty difficult and this is what we do, you can try subscribing to the various comedy venues but if you want my advice subscribe to us and a couple of the London blogs we mentioned in 2011 (we’ll be doing a new list for 2012 soon) that way you’ll find all the comedy you can handle, much of which isn’t advertised.

For instance I’ve never seen any kind of advertising for the Tattershall Castle, the Laughing Horse or the 99 Club or loads of other great places that have good comedians on at a reasonable price all in London.

Take the Tattershall Castle, this Friday and Saturday show sold out ages ago and why, the regulars know it is a great venue and with a line up of Paul Tonkinson, Doc Brown, Keith Farnan and MC Rob Beckett it is going to be a great show.

If you have never been to the Tattershall go along and you’ll be hooked, go to any of their shows and you’ll have a great night but while there are still tickets available (it said 42 left while writing this) book the show on the 10^th February, it has Terry Alderton, Lee Hurst, Andrew Bird and MC Yianni, you’ll have a great time.

I said it a couple of weeks ago that it’s getting harder to see the good comedy shows. And that you shouldn’t rely on just one London blog to keep you updated because no one blog can cover it all.

You see London comedy clubs and comedy venues don’t advertise that much so it’s easy to miss the good comedy nights.

By subscribing to some of our top London blog recommendations you stand a better chance of knowing what’s going on in London.

For instance did you hear about the Michael McIntyre charity show at Hammersmith Apollo on the 12^th December? Well the tickets went on sale yesterday and now they’re all gone.

And what about the Jimmy Carr show in March 2012!! Yep that’s sold out as well.

It’s because of all of this that I’m telling you about two comedy shows that you should book right now before they’re sold out.

The first one is the comedy night at Kings Place on Thursday 1^st December called Abandoman & Friends with Abandoman the headline act. I’ve not seen any of the acts but the reviews they’ve all got make this a quality show to see.

The other comedy night is on the next day, on Friday 2^nd December on board the Tattershall Castle.

Now this show has Paul Tonkinson and Terry Alderton and funnily enough Abandoman will also be there. Their Saturday show on the 3^rd is already sold out and there were only 45 tickets left for the Friday show.

Tickets for the Kings Place show are £9.50 online and the show starts at 8pm. Tickets for the Tattershall Castle are £16 and the show also starts at 8pm.

Both shows are sure to be good so give yourself a break and have a laugh and book as soon as you can.

Good comedy in London is getting easier to find. Problem is it’s also getting harder to book.

Simple fact is unless you’re subscribed to top London blogs. There’s a good chance you’re going to miss some of the best comedy nights.

I’ve said it loads of times before; you can’t rely on just subscribing to one or two blogs. No one blog or company can cover all that London offers.

For instance the comedy night I’m mentioning today is going to be as good as sold out by the end of this week.

Yes there’ll probably have the odd seat, here and there. But who wants to go to a comedy show and sit on their own?

This is why I’m writing this now so that you can get in. It looks like it’s going to be a brilliant night. Yet there are hardly any blogs mentioning it.

The comedy night I’m on about is the monthly Sunday Night Comedy shows at the Lyric Theatre in Hammersmith.

The Lyric has been running these shows for ages now and always have top comedians which is why it sells out.

For instance for this show most of the stalls seats have already gone as have the circle seats. So you really do need to get in now.

The comedians on the night are Stewart Lee, Josie Long and Sarah Kendall with Richard Herring as MC.

If you know anything about comedy you’ll know anyone of those acts could and often do have their own tours. To see all of them for £20 is excellent value.

The comedy night at the Lyric Theatre Hammersmith is on Sunday 30^th October, starts at 8pm and costs £20. Click comedy at Lyric Theatre to book tickets.

I don’t know if you saw the FHM Stand-up Hero comedy finals last year on the TV. If you did you’ll know how good some of the unknown comics are in this country.

Josh Widdicombe won on the night and has gone on to do some amazing shows. But one of the other comics there was Nathan Caton who was equally as good. His observation about how redheads are treated was just brilliant.

If you visit his website, Nathan Caton.com, you’ll be able to see the set he did at the FHM Stand-Up finals. You’ll also see why so many people think this guy is going to be huge.

But like most things, comedy is best enjoyed live, right there in the audience. That’s why if you want to enjoy a good night out in London this Thursday head to Kings Place. Nathan is doing a show there with a couple of support acts.

Kings Place is a fantastic venue and the room they have the comedy in is just right. You feel you’re right there with the comedian and not detached as you sometimes feel in large venues.

Unfortunately I’m not going to be able to make it but you should grab a ticket online now. If you do the tickets are only £9.50 and I guarantee you’ll have a fun night out.

If these four comedians were doing this gig at The Comedy Store in London this event would already have sold out. But just because it’s in Shepherds Bush there’re still tickets available. Talk about location, location.

Here’s the thing though. Bush Hall where the gig’s at is easy to get to. It’s a little over 5 minutes walk from Shepherds Bush Market tube on the Hammersmith & City line.

It means you can get up there and away again with no problem and have a great night out without paying central London prices.

Like I said the four comedians are all very good. They’re either award winners or regulars on TV. Even though you might not recognise their names you’re sure to have seen them if you watch comedy on TV.

Miles Jupp is the headline act and you would have seen him on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow.

Tim Key won the 2009 Edinburgh Comedy Award and that’s all that need be said but he’s also done TV and radio.

Simon Munnery probably has more experience than all the others put together, was on Stewart Lee’s Comedy Vehicle and just finished a sell-out tour.

And James Acaster, the MC on the night has been on Russell Howard’s Good News and Dave’s One Night Stand.

This is a top line up and you can get tickets for either £10 or £15 via Ticketweb. Doors open at 7.30pm and the show starts at 8.30pm and it’s on tomorrow, the 8th at Bush Hall in Shepherds Bush.

However I have to say, although the tickets are a good price, forget about drinking there. A bottle of beer or a glass of wine for £3.80 and a small bottle of water at £1.50 are central London prices.

It looks like the typical English Bank Holiday weather is returning after the last few good weeks.

It’s a shame for the Scoop and the other outdoor events, but I think you’ve got to look for some fun indoors this weekend.

Normally I only mention things to do in central London. But this comedy event I’m letting you know about is so good, it’s worth you getting your passport and travelling to South London for.

What most people don’t realise when they see the big comedians on TV. Is that all of them have had to learn their skill at small venues no one’s heard about.

They’ve entered talent contests that only their friends and family attended. And they’ve generally been treated as that guy in the pub who can tell a good joke or two. No one takes them seriously until something big happens.

That’s why when big comedy contests come around for newcomers all the best new acts want to make the final.

They know that even if they don’t win they could still get spotted by one of the top agents. For us that means we get the chance to see some of the best new comedians and have a great night out.

Well one such contest is happening this Sunday on the 29^th. 12 of the best new comedy acts will be trying to win not just £2000. But the chance to be the next Russell Kane, Jack Whitehall or Rhod Gilbert all previous winners or finalists of this contest.

The event is organised by Laughing Horse Comedy Clubs and takes place in Brixton at the Dogstar at 389 Coldharbour Lane, SW9 8LQ. On Google maps it says it’s about 5 minutes from Brixton tube. Tickets are more than I expected for an outer London event, but £11 – £15 won’t bother some people.

This Thursday on the 19^th, the Bloomsbury Theatre are having another one of their multiple comedian nights. This one’s in aid of International Alert, a charity dedicated towards creating a more peaceful world.

Of course comedians being what they are, are calling the event – Are You Taking The Peace? Apparently this same event when it was held last year was a sell out and with comedians Rich Hall and Sean Hughes on the bill, the same thing is likely to happen.

Tickets are still available and are only £17 with doors opening at 7.30pm.

My only concern about the event is that I’ve been to these charity comedy nights before and been disappointed. What sometimes happens is that they have so many comedians on the bill that each comedian is only on for a short time.

I’ve ended up having a night of almost great comedy. The comedians get up, start telling a few jokes, but just as you’re getting into their rhythm, another comedian comes on. The comedians don’t get the chance to warm up properly or get a feel for the audience.

I’m not saying the same will happen here but I wish the Bloomsbury site said how long the show was on for. That way you’d have an idea of how long each comedian is likely to be on.

However at the end of the day it is for a good cause, the line up’s good and the Bloomsbury is a nice venue.
