This post is really to help London visitors, if you’re a Londoner you just need to read the Scoop bit.
Everyone in the world has heard of London Bridge but only Londoners seem to know what it actually looks like.
I did a Google images search for London Bridge and most of the images were of Tower Bridge!
The image above is what London Bridge looks like and if you want to see it in all its glory go to Tower Bridge and look down the river.
There is however more to the London Bridge area than just the bridge. Two of the must visit places there are Borough Market and The Scoop.
Most Londoners have heard of Borough Market, but will give you wrong advice about it. Not so many have heard of The Scoop, but it’s a great experience that you should try.
Feel free to print this out or share it, you’ll be doing a favour to any of your friends who may be thinking of going to the area.
2 Must visit places at London Bridge
Borough Market
Borough Market is one of the best food markets in London because it has such a huge range of foods often from specialist suppliers.
When you go there you’ll be surprised at what you can find, a friend once came back with an ostrich egg!
The best day to go is Thursday because come Saturday it’s so busy it ceases to be a fun and interesting place, it just becomes a real grind. If you can only go on a Saturday aim to get there for around 9am.
Also Borough Market isn’t open every day. It’s open 11am – 5pm on Thursday, 12pm – 6pm on Friday and 8am – 5pm on Saturday.
To get to the market is very simple. It’s only a few minutes walk from any of the London Bridge station exists, the exit that’s best is the Borough High Street exit and then head for the Southwark street exit.
The Scoop
The Scoop is at a place called More London and it’s where free open air films and plays take place, it’s one of those hidden gems you always hope to find in London, but it really only comes into full swing during the summer and early autumn months.
All the events there are free and seats are on a first come basis, the films they show are generally old and recent classic movies, but you’ll have to wrap up when you go because The Scoop is an open air amphitheatre. Check our London weather forecast before you go.
As an example of the sort of things they put on, go there next week and you’ll see a very different version of Macbeth, it sounds like it’s going to be really good so visit The Scoop website and you’ll see what I mean. Also when you go on the night make sure you get a load of copies of the Evening Standard to sit on and please take them away with you to.
The Scoop is about 10 minute walk from London Bridge station when you get out of the station at the Tooley Street exit turn right and head down the road and cross over.
