The World Photograph Festival at Somerset House starting on Tuesday is for real diehard photographers and if that’s you, you should already know about it, but also at the festival is something for the rest of us and that’s the Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition.
Both the Festival and the Awards exhibition start tomorrow and whereas the Festival ends on the 1st May you’ll still be able to see the Awards exhibition until the 22nd which considering how big they’re saying it is, is a very short run, also for some strange reason it’s only open until 6 each day so you’re going to have to mix it up with the crowds at the weekends.
One other thing to bear in mind is its £10 to get in, which personally I don’t think is too bad, although some people around here seem to disagree, but the fact is considering what you’re getting a chance to see and you get to see a hell of a lot, I think it’s great value.
The World Photography Organisation are the organisers of the event and on their website they say you’ll be able to see hundreds of images from professionals and amateurs and what I really like is that these are the winners and runners-up so the quality is sure to be high.
However what makes this a must see event is Bruce Davidson, they say he’s regarded as one of the last ‘Masters of Photography’ and he’s being given a special award and he’s chosen some of his favourite images to be exhibited as part of the exhibition, this has to be the icing on the cake on what already sounds like a memorable exhibition.
The Sony World Photograph Awards Exhibition is at Somerset House from tomorrow until the 22nd May, get there early when it opens at 10 because it’s going to take you all day to see it all, click Sony World Photograph Awards Exhibition for full details and to see some of the images in the exhibition.
