I got an email from a PR rep wanting to know how we decided what events to write about because we hadn’t written about their event.
I was surprised because I thought it was clear from the sidebar. So to help you decide if this is a blog worth subscribing to and for other PR’s, this is what we do.
We write about events that most London blogs do not cover or put a different twist on an event so that the article isn’t just giving you a date and time. See the Covent Garden Kiss post.
The idea is that if you’re a tourist thinking about getting our EPok London Pack, you’ll find out about things to do that guidebooks don’t mention. If you live or work in London you’ll find out about things to do that you might not have heard about.
Too many London blogs copy what PR’s send them and add nothing
I think this week has been a particularly good example. For instance, how many of you had heard of the Geffrye museum, let alone what’s going on there?
Yes you’ve heard about the Wellcome Collection but not many other blogs have written about the Hands exhibition in any detail.
Then there’s the comedy at the Tattershall Castle. The regulars of the event know how good it is there. But ask any tourists or most Londoners about a comedy venue and they’ll all say the Comedy Store.
The whole idea for our comedy section is to wake people up to the other great comedy venues in London.
And finally the Anthony Strong post. I can’t understand why people aren’t writing about this event. A 2 hour live set that if it was in Ronnie Scott’s would be at least £20. He’s doing it for free at the Southbank and no bloggers are letting Londoners know about it.
What’s mentioned as being on in London shouldn’t be down to what PR agencies say
Yet we could have done what many blogs did this week and copied PR fluff about the Winter Wonderland, Thanksgiving venues and events, Ice Skating venues, various switching on of Christmas lights, the traffic free day etc etc.
Rest assured if we write about any of those types of events at least we’ll tell you something that other people haven’t.
For example next week some of the things we’ll cover will be if it’s worth going to the World Press Photo exhibition, the Illumini which sounds really interesting and advice about the Narnia premiere.
But we won’t be mentioning Taste of Christmas, Santa Grottos or Christmas markets because you can find out about them at nearly every London blog and main media.
I hope that gives everyone a better idea of what we’re about.
Thanks for your time.
