If you’ve never listened to Sympathy for the Devil by the Rolling Stones go and YouTube it. It’s one of Keith Richards and Mick Jagger’s best songs, clever lyrics and music. Here’s my version of how they could have done it for 2010.
–
I shouldn’t need to introduce myself
Haven’t you wondered where I’ve been?
The greatest trick I managed to pull off
Was making you not believe again
You heard I’d been around from the beginning of time
Causing this and that
Put the blame on Him who doesn’t speak
And you were alright with that.
–
Pleased to meet you again
What! You’ve forgotten my name
It’s no puzzle this time
Hear listen to my rhyme
–
I made them hate Lincoln
But they knew America was more important than that
Republicans and Democrats worked together
So America prospered and they turned me back
Now I got them to hate Obama
Yeah all they can see is he’s black
They’ve forgotten it’s about their country
So it’s limping, staggering and now I’m back.
–
Pleased to meet you again
What! You’ve forgotten my name
It’s no puzzle this time
Hear listen to my rhyme
–
Religions they have come and gone
And I put myself in them all
The little boys cried abuse
But I made them all obtuse
Converting through violence
Was never meant to be the way
Terrorism was never in His game
So please don’t read again what He had to say.
–
Pleased to meet you again
What! You’ve forgotten my name
It’s no puzzle this time
Hear listen to my rhyme
–
The wall was so great it kept me out
Confucius words were spoken loud
Wisdom was there all about
Now I got them supporting despots and they’re so proud
Food, water, and forests you had them all
There was nothing more to need
So I helped you squander and burn them
And filled you all with greed.
–
Pleased to meet you again
What! You’ve forgotten my name
It’s no puzzle this time
Hear listen to my rhyme
–
I’ve left my mark for more than a thousand years
Surely by now, you’ve remembered my name
I’ve given you enough clues
It’s Lucifer the one and the same
So if you meet me now
Believe me you won’t know
You see I’m back on the reign
Go against me and it’s you they’ll shoot down in flames.
–
Pleased to meet you
You know my name
It’s no puzzle this time
And now you know my game.
