6 Things to do in London in November and what’s on in London for free

November can be a funny month. I remember being at some Bonfire Nights and being absolutely freezing. But then sometimes you just have the most fantastic autumn days when it’s not too cold, the leaves are down and everything looks amazing.

Read our November weather post and you’ll get an idea of what I mean.

In between those two extremes is November and here are 6 things to do in London to fill those days.

The Dior exhibition at Somerset House isn’t the usual kind of art exhibition. This one is about the illustrator, René Gruau and his Dior illustrations.

They say Gruau created the iconic fashion images of the 20th Century which is a bold statement and makes me want to see it. If you feel the same way you’ve got plenty of time as it starts on Wednesday 10th and ends on the 9th January 2011, price just £6. Click Things to do at Somerset House.

If you’re into shopping you’re probably going to want to sign up for the special Carnaby Street Shopping evening. It’s a ticket only affair, but the tickets are free and you get discounts at the shops, special offers and giveaways. It’s not my kind of thing but if you’re into that click Carnaby Street Shopping evening for the free tickets. It’s on Thursday 18th from 5pm – 9pm.

This next one is for all car lovers. The London to Brighton Veteran Car run takes place this month and on Saturday 6th you get the chance to see the cars up close.

Between 10am – 4pm there will be over 100 veteran cars and low emission cars on display along Regent Street. Shut off to traffic you’ll get the chance to look at the cars and take a ride on some of them all for free.

I’m sure you’re going to go out for a meal sometime in November and December. When you do go to one of the Street Smart campaign restaurants and leave a £1 donation to help the homeless.

The campaign’s been going for a few years now and raised millions to help the homeless. This is such a simple thing for you to do and many of the restaurants taking part are very good. Click Street Smart for the restaurants in London.

We’ve mentioned the National Portrait Late Friday events before and we’ll keep mentioning them while they’re still this good.

They’re not like the madness of the V & A and other museum Lates. On Fridays they have free live music to listen to near the entrance played by a band or soloist. Give it a go during the London Jazz Festival on Friday 19th and hear the jazz pianist Tom Cawley, his set starts at 6.30pm.

There are lots of things to do for the kids in November, Bonfire Night and the Lord Mayors Show spring to mind. But do something a little different and try the Children’s Film Festival at the Barbican. I’m sure this event will be very popular so check out the website and get your tickets ASAP. Click London Children’s Film Festival for details.

And finally if you like to meet famous singers, the HMV at Oxford Street and at Whiteley’s has McFly, Brian Ferry and Tinchy Stryder doing signings this month.

For details on this event you really should think about subscribing to our blog.

Chris did this post in late December about the kissing event at Covent Garden, it’s so good I had to add it on to here.

I hope that keeps you going when you’re stuck for things to do and if you know of any other events or things to do in London, share them in the comments below.

Thanks for your time.
