Tango or the Royal Philharmonic – Spoilt for choice in London yet again

by Norm on 24/08/2010

What I like about these two events is that they’re put on for the benefit of people living and working in London, no 5pm start here that only tourists can get to, no these events start at 6.30 and 7 and they’re very good.

Spitalfields Market has been holding their free monthly Tango class and dance on Thursdays for some while now and they seem to be growing in popularity.

Although there will be sessions in September and October, with so many people away on holiday right now, this is your best chance of actually having enough space to learn some steps/dance .

If you haven’t been before go along with a mate or some friends and have some fun, there are plenty of bars and places to go to eat afterwards and the area’s buzzing on a Thursday night anyway. To take part head to the centre of Spitalfields, the free lesson starts at 6.30 to 7 and then after that it’s freestyle until about 10.

However if that’s too energetic for you then this next event couldn’t be more different.

Canary Wharf has had such a great line up of events this year in Canada Square Park it’s hard to believe they could top it, but they have.

The weather hasn’t always been kind for some of the shows and the weather forecast for this Thursday could go either way, but with a live performance by members of the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, it’s got to be worth the risk of going.

If you’ve been following this blog and been to one of these Thursday evening events you’ll know how busy they get so even though it starts at 7pm you do have to get there much earlier than that if you want to get near the front.

Canada Square Park is about 5 minutes walk from Canary Wharf tube station, turn right when you leave the station, go up the stairs at the far end turn right and the park is on the other side of the road.

There you go then the Tango or the Royal Philharmonic, two very good events for London’s workers, what one will you go to or if you think you know of any better events drop a comment below.
