Here’s one thing to do in London that I bet you missed

bullitt poster londonSometimes there are so many things going on in London that I don’t know which to pick to write about, so true to the blogs ideals I’ve gone for something that I’m sure will have passed you by.

I bet everyone reading this has seen a Steve McQueen film and there’s a good chance some of you will be fans and can name a favourite film or scene. If that’s you you’re going to love what the BFI on the Southbank are doing from today because until the end of the month they’re showing a collection of his films.

Can you imagine seeing Bullitt on the big screen the way it was supposed to be, over the big humps screeching round the corners, the near misses. I don’t care how big your TV is or what surround sound you’ve got, nothing is going to compare to seeing that car chase through the street of San Francisco on the big screen.

I’ve been to a few of these old films that have been shown at the BFI and they’re great because of a couple of reasons. One, the audience are there because they appreciate the film, there’s no slurping of drinks and kids talking through the film and two regardless of where you’re sitting you seem to get a good view.

The BFI screen 1 is one of the best cinemas in London, yes I know how good The Electric in Notting Hill is, but have you tried getting tickets there for a really popular film and did you take out a mortgage for the tickets. The BFI treat you like adults, is in an easy to get to location and ticket prices are very reasonable.

Even if you’re not that into Steve McQueen read the intro the BFI have done about him and I’m sure you’ll change your mind, then go along and try one of the films in Screen 1, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the experience.

Would love to know if you know of any other cinemas in London that offer a better experience than the chain cinemas?
