Henri Matisse I presume
There are certain artist’s names that everybody recognises. Then there are others who no one can recall.
I’m sure back in Matisse’s days the situation was exactly the same. Now look at him, one of the most recognisable names, yet how many of us would recognise one of his paintings. I know I couldn’t.
If you’re in the same boat do what I intend to do and go to the Helly Nahmad Gallery, near New Bond Street.
Right now and up to Friday 23rd they’ve got a small Matisse exhibition on. The exhibition is free and it’s on Monday – Friday, 10am – 6pm.
Great for tourists but what about Londoners
That’s all well and good then, if you’re a tourist or work close by. Given the area where the exhibition is, something tells me they don’t want Joe Public going there.
There’s little to no publicity about the exhibition or the gallery. It seems to be like a big secret that only a few people know about.
So the question is, why are they having an exhibition like this and not making it easily accessible to everybody? Not opening at the weekend or even having one late night makes me suspicious.
I don’t know, but I wonder if there’s some requirement by the Arts Council that to get funding you have to be open a certain amount of time. Namely, just Monday – Friday?
It all just seems very strange to have an exhibition in London of one of the world’s most famous artists. But then make it almost impossible for Londoners to see.
What do you think, is it right to have such restricted times. Or have I seen too many conspiracy theory films?
The Matisse exhibition is at the Helly Nahmad Gallery until Friday 23rd. Green Park or Piccadilly Circus are the nearest stations.

P.S. We’re still working on the images problem that we’ve got on some older posts so apologies if you come across any.
