There's more going on at Spitalfields than you think

If you don’t work in the City, Spitalfields market isn’t going to be a place that springs to mind as a place to go during the day or after work, which suits City workers fine as they can’t stand tourists.

But at this time of the year and for the next few months City workers are going to have to get use to seeing more visitors because Spitalfields will be holding all kinds of events that are definitely worth going to and mostly free.

Last week I was up there and I was surprised how popular the Tango evenings have become, there was a time when it wasn’t that easy to find a partner, but now everyone seems to be in on it.

The next one will be in July so subscribe to our blog so that you get all the details.

Salsa dancing and music in Spitalfields

Well this week it’s the turn of the salsa dancers who will be able to twist their thing on Thursday from 6.30pm – 8.30pm. You can go along to watch or get there early for a free salsa lesson at the beginning and it’s free to take part if you already know how to do your salsa thing.

Something else people are not aware of with Spitalfields are the lunchtime concerts that are held there on Fridays at this time of the year.

This Friday it’s the turn of singer songwriter, Amelia Robinson, who will be doing a set from 1pm to 2pm and if you head for the centre of the market you’ll be able see her.

It’s not my kind of music but she’s got a lovely voice and if I was around the area I would go to see what she’s like live.

Spitalfields also has a heck of a lot of bars around the edge with a good atmosphere when the weather’s this good. Honestly go down there on a Thursday or Friday and you’ll be surprised how lively it is.

Also so that you don’t miss out on other things to do in London keep reading our blog.
