Maybe it’s me, maybe I’m too young
But I don’t get excited about afternoon tea in London.
A cuppa in a cafe is fine by me
A greasy spoon can still do a good tea.
–
And who drinks tea out anyway?
Surely everyone’s going to coffee shops for latte.
No teas definitely a generational drink
And afternoon tea, just for tourists I think.
–
Imagine my surprise then when I found
This is the month the Tea Awards come around.
I kid you not, this is no April Fools
It’s a serious competition with serious rules.
–
The competition is nationwide
But London is where everyone eyes.
In London only the best tea rooms can take part
So you know the competition is fierce from the start.
–
And how do they find out where’s the best tea
They have inspectors who go all James Bond and CIA.
I mean these guys and girls go undercover
As if it was a top secret formula they’re trying to discover.
–
The Top London Afternoon Tea award is what’s up for grabs
But there are also Awards of Excellence to be had.
The winners were named a couple of days ago
So if tea’s your thing this is what you need to know.
–
The Langham Hotel’s Palm Court Tea Room took the main prize
They are now The Top London Afternoon Tea place in everyone’s eyes.
Bookings there I’m sure will have gone up
If you haven’t booked your tea there already, good luck.
–
As for the Awards of Excellence winners here are a few
Go to any of these and they’ll bowl you over too.
Try The Dorchester, The Lanesborough, Browns Hotel
The Goring, The Ritz and ‘Tea’ at Liberty as well.
–
At the end of the day, tea might be a personal thing
But go to any one of these places
And you’ll think an angel has landed on your tongue and started to sing.
–
If you want to know where to go for the best afternoon tea in London, you now know. The Langham Hotel’s Palm Court Tea Room is officially The Top London Afternoon Tea place. If you want to book your afternoon tea there you best hurry as bookings are sure to go quickly.
Do you think they got it right or do you know somewhere else in London that does a great Afternoon Tea?
