Do something different in London, see the Roman ruins
This post is mainly for Londoners because I’m sure any tourist visiting London will have planned some time to see the Roman ruins around London.
Us Londoners on the other hand have this history all around us and mostly don’t know about it and certainly never go to see it.
We go abroad, trek to some small village that has a pile of rubble that used to be (maybe) an amphitheatre to a small Roman village. And then go wow!
Are we mad or what?
It’s time we woke up and started enjoying London like tourists do. Maybe even buy a travel guide, you’ll be surprised at what you don’t know about London. Read our review of some of the travel guides available, click London Travel Guide book.
So as a start why not go to see some proper Roman history and the most important Roman discovery in London, the Roman London amphitheatre.
Access to the Roman London amphitheatre is via the Guildhall Art Gallery. Entry to the amphitheatre is included in the price to the Gallery and is only £2.50 and if you live or work in the City it’s free.
However the best way to see the amphitheatre is to book one of the monthly organised tours by the Museum of London.
Now the Museum of London is fascinating and worth a visit on its own so definitely take that in after the tour. As for the tour it’s run by the museum curator and last for an hour and costs just £5.
As I said these tours are only run once a month and the next one is on Tuesday 13th starting at 2pm. You have to book in advance so do it as soon as you can.
If you can’t make the tour but still want to see the amphitheatre, the Guildhall is open at the weekends up to 5pm on Saturdays and 4pm on Sundays.
Also so that you don’t miss out on other things to do in London keep reading our blog.
Thanks for your time.
