Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant talk at the Apple store

What is it with the Apple store in London, is it a place to get Apple products. Or is it also an entertainment venue?

I’ve been following the events there since last year and they remind me of what Selfridges are doing.

The same way that Selfridges isn’t just a department store. The Apple store is showing it isn’t just a place you go for all things Apple.

Last year they had a few evenings with directors and singers every couple of months or so. Forward to this year and they’ve had loads of special one offs with music from Toploader and comedy from the Mighty Boosh being the biggest.

It seems the word is out amongst PR people that you can get instant cred if you book a client to do a session at the store. In the past that was fine, the stars at these sessions weren’t huge and everything was civilised.

The problem now is they’re having very popular people/bands that a lot of fans want to see and the venue can’t take it.

Whether they’re going to have that problem tomorrow with Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant is hard to say. The pair will be there to talk about their new film, Cemetery Junction and although they’re very popular, the event is being held at 5pm instead of the usual 7pm which is bound to affect numbers.

Who knows maybe that’s the way they’ll do future events for popular acts. Have it start early to reduce numbers. I hope they don’t because again it will mean people who work in London are missing out on special one off events.

Whatever they decide if you want to do something different in London tomorrow. Go and see Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant talk about their new film, Cemetery Junction, at the Apple store on Regent Street. It’s on Friday 9th, starts at 5pm goes on until 6pm, is free and is on a first come basis.

One last thing, if you hadn’t stumbled across this blog would you have found out about this event? So that you don’t miss future events just subscribe to us via email or feed. The link’s in the top right hand corner.
