Jean Shrimpton by David Bailey
An East End boy done good
The equivalent of Rappers getting out of the hood.
But no Bling needed for show
Just a camera and a lot of know-how.
–
David Bailey was a pretty young thing
Photographing other pretty young things.
A photographer that shaped swinging London town
If you were rich or famous you had to pop round.
–
Pictures of Jagger, Stamp, Shrimpton he took them all
A genius with a camera
And an eye for the ladies too.
–
What must it of been like to be him
He must have felt like a king
And if not a king, the luckiest man alive
Surrounded by beauties, morning, noon and night.
–
The haze of the 60′s came and lingered on
But unlike his contemporaries he continued when it was gone.
The 70′s, 80′s, 90′s he was still in demand
Even today at 70 odd he has his camera at hand.
–
And now you have a great chance to see some of his work
Away from the maddening crowd and herd.
In a posh street not far away
Bonhams the auctioneers is the place to be.
–
They’ve got an exhibition ‘Pure Sixties. Pure Bailey’
He put the pictures together to tell his story.
All the usual suspects that you know
And some of the pictures have never been on show.
–
If you like this decade this exhibition is a must
And the pictures are for sale if you’ve got the cash.
Go along and enjoy
And tip your hat to that East End boy.
–
