The Russian Maslenitsa festival on Sunday 7th is new to me and even Ronnie says he hadn’t heard about it before.
This is the second year it’s been on and even though it’s not big yet, all festivals have to start somewhere.
To me it looks like it’s a good old fashioned family type event that just happens to have a Russian theme. There will be lots of traditional Russian music as well as modern performances from top Russian acts.
The main stage will also have traditional singing and dancing and what’s a surprise to me, a modern jazz band from St Petersburg.
There will also be another stage for children activities and performances, such as a puppet show, singing and games.
As with all outdoor festivals like this, there will be plenty of food on sale. But don’t expect to see burgers and fries, there will be traditional Russian snacks and well known dishes such as beef stroganoff.
But you know I don’t know about this one, the festival is only on from 1pm – 6pm which makes me think there can’t be that much going on. But at the same time it would be nice to see another view of Russia than the one we normally see.
If you fancy going it’s very easy to get to as it’s only about 10 minutes walk from London Bridge station. It’s taking place in what’s called Potters Fields Park and I’m sure there will be lots of people going along so just follow the crowd.
I’ve put a map below to help you out and a link with a tiny bit more information.
