A remarkable story
There was a time not that long ago
When students marched to let Mandela go.
Years went by, the regime wouldn’t sway
Boycotts came and faded away.

Then it seemed to come out of the blue
They were actually going to let Mandela go.
Me and my friends couldn’t believe it
You see Google and the Internet hadn’t yet been invented!

Man that was so long ago
About 20 years don’t you know.
Then the elections came and he won
And everyone said expect bloodbaths and revenge to come.
–
But Mandela was bigger than that
He knew revenge might be best served cold, but that was a fools pact.
For him reconciliation was the key
And that’s what he worked for even before he was free.
–
So he tried to get people to work together
But suspicions run deep, memories even further.
The process stuttered and faltered but he wouldn’t give up
Like I said he was bigger than that.
–
Friends disappointed, marriage fell by the side
He stayed focused and always with a smile.
People wondered how a man who had endured
Could be so forgiving with not a bad word.
–
So with all this happening, like another great man he had a dream
The dream to unite a nation in a team.
Now rugby in South Africa is way more than a sport
It’s life, it’s passion, it’s reconcilement at work.

That brings us nicely to the end of this post
But not the story, it was too good, it became a film of course.
The premiere is tomorrow night
And the A-list stars will be in sight
