ice skating in london, ice skate outdoors

Somerset House is one of the nicest rinks in London

For things to do and what’s on in November 2010 click things to do in London in November.

There was a time about 5 or 6 years ago that if you wanted to go ice skating in London you’d have to go outside of London.

Back then you’d find it hard to find a venue. Boy how times have changed for the better.

There are so many temporary ice rinks set up for the Christmas and New Year period, it’s just wonderful. Plus they’re in such lovely settings that you really should go along even if just to take in the atmosphere. I guarantee it will put you in the festive mood.

Funnily enough even though there has been an increase in the number of rinks, it’s a bit like that Kevin Costner film when he says, build it and they will come. It doesn’t matter what rink you want to go to they all are busy so it’s best to book in advance.

I’ll do a full article post soon about the best rinks to go to, but for now I’ll just highlight the two venues that started the whole craze off.

Ice skating at the Natural History Museum

The ice rink at the Natural History Museum is one of those lovely venues I mentioned earlier. There’s a good sized rink for adults and a smaller one attached for children. Like all of the rinks it’s best to go off peak when the tickets are cheaper and you’ll have more space to skate. Prices are £13.50 peak and £11.50 off peak for adults, £8.50 peak and £8 off peak for children for a 1 hour session.

Somerset House romantic skaing rink

The Somerset House rink I think has been going the longest; it’s definitely the first one I remember going to. It’s much smaller than the Natural History one, but the romance and beauty of the place makes it the most popular venue. Prices are £12.50 peak and £10.50 off peak for adults, £8 peak and £7.50 off peak for children for a 1 hour session.

I hope you get a chance to take advantage of these rinks, it will make a great vacation memory. Also visit epok.com and find out about our EPok London Pack to see how you can save money on eating out in London.
