The art of photography is dying, but not in London

things to do in london, photographic exhibition

How do you capture a great scene? Not with a camera phone.

These days with every mobile phone having a camera and digital cameras as cheap as chips, everyone thinks they’re the next Annie Leibovitz or David Bailey. We take snaps of anything and everything, but with no one filtering them for quality we end up looking at and taking a lot of rubbish photos.

I think the art and quality of photography is dying because we see so many photos and because so many photos are digitally enhanced. The result is we except poor photography as good because we’ve forgotten what good photography looks like.

That’s why I thinkĀ  it’s such a joy to see something like the Photomonth Photofair at Spitalfields Market. If you’re into photography or you want to learn more about it this fair covers all the bases. There are exhibitions, stalls run by photographers selling prints and photographic services such as Dr Photo who will sort out any photo problems you may have.

If you want to see how the experts, amateur and professional, do it or just like to look at great photography this is an event you don’t want to miss. The event takes place on Saturday 10th at Spitalfields Market; it’s free and starts at 10am ending at 6pm.

The easiest way to get to Spitalfields market is to go to Liverpool Street Station and it’s less than 10 minutes walk away.
