things to do in London

Fun events and things to do in London

What really struck me this week was that Londoners have certainly left for their holidays and there are definitely less tourists here than usual. Of course all of this is great for you because you stand a much better chance of seeing exhibitions and events without being crushed.

The events this week are very good and I hope you get a chance to try them.

The Rankin exhibition at the Old Truman Brewery is one of those events you’ll be glad you went to see. This is no ordinary photographic exhibition because you could become part of the exhibition if your picture is taken. That apart his pictures of celebrates and ordinary people are amazing. Tickets cost £10.

More London at the Scoop has shone this summer with the number and quality of free events they have put on. Rarely mentioned in guidebooks, yet the events here are totally unmissable. For instance Friday – Sunday this week and Wednesday and Thursday of next week they have free theatre performances of Jason  and the Argonauts and of Medea. The performances start at either 6pm or 8pm, are performed outdoors and you just turn up.

If you’ve never been to St Martin-in-the-Fields for one of their music nights you really are missing something special. On Friday and Saturday they have a Bach and Handel concert starting at 7.30. While on Wednesday 12th they have a soul and jazz group and on Thursday another Bach concert. This is one of those hidden gems you’ll be glad you went to. You can get tickets in advance at the box office at the church which is advisable as the events do sell out.

Staying on the music theme, if you like jazz head to Canary Wharf on Thursday 13th. Get there between 1 – 2.15 and you’ll see the start of the Canary Wharf Jazz Festival, it’s at Canada Park Square, it’s free and a nice way to spend a lunchtime.

The Camden Fringe is becoming more established and is London’s answer to the Edinburgh Fringe. I guarantee in a few years time all the guidebooks will be mentioning this, well you know about it now! There’s comedy, theatre and anything a performer can think of.

I’ve been going on about the Press Photographer’s Exhibition since it started because it’s so good. Make this a definite stop while you’re here, it’s free, it’s fascinating, what more do you want.

The comedy club I have been highlighting this month is the Funny Side Comedy Clubs. Just to prove how good it is there are no tickets left for the Saturday 8th performance, but still some for Friday 7th.

The EPok London Pack doesn’t just tell you about events like these, it also has money saving offers to make your vacation in London cheaper. Get the Pack at www.epok.com.
